WHAT IS A PSYCHOLOGIST?

A Psychologist is a Behavioral Health professional with an advanced academic degree, such as a Ph.D., who will focus on mental and emotional health, and on behavioral issues. Unlike a psychiatrist, a Psychologist is not a physician, and does not prescribe medications. Psychologists use testing and assessment to diagnose, and they use counseling, education, and psychotherapy to treat a variety of issues, such as anxiety, depression, inattention and hyperactivity, trauma and abuse, eating disorders, marital conflict, poor impulse control, parenting issues, etc.

INTRODUCTION TO DR. MOSACK AND HER PSYCHOLOGY PRACTICE

Psychology Practice: People who come into my psychology practice are here for a variety of issues. They may be depressed or anxious, or grieving. They may be experiencing work stress or they may be having difficulties in their relationships or marriage. There may be parenting questions. Some people have come with eating disorders, or with obsessive-compulsive disorder. I often see children and adults with inattention or hyperactivity. There may be serious health concerns for oneself or a spouse or a child, or there may be difficult life transitions. Some people were traumatized in childhood and have multiple symptoms as a result. I often say that “everyone has a story,” and sometimes we need help to cope with the difficulties life hands us, or we need some education and training regarding what we see happening to us or to a loved one.

Education and Background: I have always had a heart for people. While in high school, I volunteered at a Park program for children, and while in college I volunteered at a local orphanage to work with the younger children. Theirs were heart-breaking stories.

I graduated from college with a B.A. in Art, and the equivalent of a minor in Psychology. In 1984, I earned an M.A. in Psychology at Duquesne University. I completed my doctoral level courses at Duquesne University, and also studied at the Institute of Formative Spirituality at Duquesne University. I then completed a one year Psychology Internship at Sewickley Valley Hospital and Staunton Clinic in 1988, working with both outpatient and inpatient clients. I spent two years working in a private practice in Kingston, PA, and then was licensed in Pennsylvania in early 1991, and opened my own private practice in Wilkes-Barre that year. I earned my doctoral degree in 1999, and I have remained in private practice in Northeastern Pennsylvania since then.
